In an effort to improve client service, we have implemented SafeSend Returns to automate the tax return delivery process effective immediately. SafeSend Returns is a secure, user-friendly program that makes the process of reviewing and signing your tax returns simpler.
Here’s how it works:
Follow the link in the email to access your tax return.
Verify your identity to access your return.
Sign and return your tax returns electronically.
SafeSend provides a secure process to review and sign your return via computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Some key notes on the process:
- Wilke & Associates will send an email from email@example.com once returns are completed.
- Enter the last 4 digits of your SSN and click ‘Authenticate.’
- Enter an access code generated from a second email. Click ‘Continue.’
- Review return.
- Download payment vouchers and tax return.
- Electronically sign the Form 8879 IRS e-file Signature Authorization (will need to answer questions to confirm identity).
- Make payments to appropriate taxing authority via mail or online through SafeSend.
Frequently Asked Questions
For the best experience, we recommend using Google Chrome. If items still aren’t loading, try clearing your cached images.
SafeSend will not file your quarterly estimated taxes for you; however, it will automatically notify you seven days before a payment due date.
You’ll receive an email notification, which will also include a link to download a copy of your return for your records. Please note this does not file your return with federal, state, or local taxing bodies; depending on your engagement letter, either Wilke does this for you or you must ensure that your tax return is timely filed on your own. Also remember that local taxes cannot be e-filed, so you’ll still need a print copy of your tax return to complete the local tax remittance.
Taxpayers with dependents will need to complete the identity verification process on behalf of minor children. Adult dependents may need to log in separately and verify their own identity.
Both individuals must separately login and sign the e-file authorization forms independent of one another. If both spouses’ email addresses are on file, each person will receive the same email and link but be asked specific identity verification questions.
If both spouses share the same email, the first spouse will complete the process, then input the email address for the other spouse.
We recommend accessing SafeSend at home using a laptop or desktop, then printing the return from there.
SafeSend is compatible with desktop and laptop computers, tablets, and smartphones. Currently, SafeSend does not have an app that needs to be downloaded separately; it’s all done via logging into a secure website.
SafeSend pulls its verification questions from government and credit sources; for example, you might be asked about a timeframe where you lived at a certain address, or a type of car you once owned or leased. Sometimes, the verification question won’t apply to you at all – that’s also identity verification! Simply choose the accurate response, and you’re good to go!
If you’re unable to complete the verification questions correctly, you’ll need to print, sign, and return the forms manually to Wilke.
Look for a notification email from “firstname.lastname@example.org.” Some clients have to add this email address to their safe sender list to avoid the emails going into the junk or spam folder.
All transmitted files processed through SafeSend are encrypted and can be password protected.
For additional peace of mind, look for https:// at the beginning of the URL and a lock icon in the browser’s URL bar. This confirms you’re on a secure site. The SafeSend process is confidential, secure, and protected.
SafeSend is a secure, confidential way to electronically sign your e-file authorization forms, but it won’t file the return with the IRS. Once the e-forms are signed, your tax team at Wilke is notified and we finish the filing process for you.
Check your junk or spam folder and/or search for “email@example.com” in your email inbox. The email with the access code should be delivered within about 20 minutes. If you still don’t have it, please request another email.
